We provide peace of mind for absentee property owners on Topsail Island. We are your single point of contact for all the things you want to get done to your property. Think of us like an added layer of (very inexpensive) insurance. We’re the ones you call when you don’t know who else to call.

Think of us as your single point of contact for all the needs of your personal property on the island. We are 3rd generation locals who have relationships with all kinds of contractors, handyman services, painters, mechanics, HVAC technicians, plumbers, cleaners, pressure washing, boat maintenance, local captains, and much more.

Step 1: Sign Up

You subscribe to Own Away service and pay a monthly fee of $50.

Step 2: Call or Submit a Request on your Customer Portal

Anytime you need something done at your beach house, give us a call, or go to our online portal and submit a request.

Step 3: We Get the Job Done

We then arrange the requested service with a trusted, local contractor (if needed) and handle the scheduling for you, provide a quote, facilitate any site-visits, materials requests, or questions from the service provider. Throughout the process we will keep you apprised of the timeline and progress. Once the job is completed, you pay the contractor directly for their service, and we collect a 15% fee on the final bill amount that the service provider charged, plus the current IRS mileage rate for any miles we drive throughout the process, and reimbursement (at cost) for any materials purchased by us.

Functionality You Will Love

What is your payment structure?

Own Away is a simple subscription based service. To join, you pay a one-time refundable deposit of $500, and a small monthly fee of $50 per property. When you need something done, reach out to us and we'll arrange the service with one of our trusted, local service providers. Once the job is done, the service provider issues a bill to you, and we collect 15% of the total amount billed as our management fee, plus the current IRS mileage rate for any miles driven by us for the project.

Is there a charge if a 3rd party service provider isn't necessary?

Sometimes you just need someone to run by your house and check on things, or adjust your boat on the lift, or haul it out and put the cover on. For these services, and other requests that don't require a 3rd party service provider, you get 1 free site visit per month included in your subscription. After that, we charge $50/hr for miscellaneous jobs and requests, billed monthly.

How Do you Access my Property?

When you sign up for Own Away, you get a customer portal where you will fill out your property details including address, access instructions, special notes and point of contact for when we need to reach you.

What if you have to purchase supplies?

Occasionally, Own Away will need to procure supplies for repair projects or other specialty items requested by you. You will then reimburse Own Away for these items at cost, and pay IRS mileage rate for any miles driven by us during the process.

Are you Licensed and Insured?

Yes! You can rest easy knowing that Own Away and all of our contractors and service providers are fully licensed and insured. We expect a lot out of our partners, and hold each of them to high standards when it comes to safety, quality and reliability to give you peace of mind.

What do you do when a hurricane is coming but you don't have time to get to your house before it hits? Submit a request to our portal, and we’ll ensure your shutters are closed and any other requested details are attended to before it hits.  In this case, we may perfrom the task ourselves, and would submit a bill directly to you for our time at a rate of $50/hr. 

You need your boat hauled out and serviced by a local mechanic. Submit a request on our portal and we’ll line up a service visit, haul your boat out of the water and to the local mechanic, and re-splash your vessel once the service is complete. The mechanic charges $500 for the service, we would collect $75 for our service ($500 x .15 = $75) plus the current IRS mileage rate for any miles we drive throughout the process.

Need a painter to re-stain the deck at your beach house or? Submit a request to our portal, and we’ll line it up, attend any necessary on-site meetings or assessments, work with you on specific details and see the project through. The total charge from the painter is $1,000. You pay the painter $1,000 and we collect a $150 fee for our service ($1,000 x .15 = $150).
